A note from Gentry Lange for Independence Day

The 4th of July at Gasworks Park was a great day of meeting voters for the campaign and attending house parties, and what a fabulous display. Wallingford hosts a great event every year.

Speaking of independence, there’s a few things that I’d like to say on this July 4th, 2007.

Today is Independence Day, and I for one would like to declare independence from war, war profiteering, fossil fuels, George W. Bush, and a whole host of other issues. I am, like most of you, very concerned about the world of Global Warming, habitat destruction, the world-wide loss of species, and so many other issues, why go on?

Well here in Seattle I think we have a chance to change the world for the better by thinking globally and voting locally for Joe Szwaja. Backing Joe’s bid for city council is supporting a candidate who seeks the same type of progressive change that I seek, and I believe many of you seek as well.

As many of you may know, I have been working closely with Joe as the interim Campaign Manager. Launching a campaign is a little like trying to create an entire company, marketing, messaging, investors, but in just a few short weeks from scratch on a tight budget. Which we’ve done with your generous support.

Now that the campaign is up and running, we have started to fine tune the campaign structure, and to that end have hired Young Han as our new Deputy Campaign Manager, and Brian Sandall as Field Coordinator. This will give Joe’s campaign the support needed, while allowing me to focus more of my energy on media outreach and marketing, while being confident that the day to day tasks are getting accomplished.

Of course, I will continue to support the campaign as needed while Young Han takes over the daily operations. And as the campaign grows we are learning and adapting the rolls within the campaign to meet the challenges of running a winning city-wide race.

Joe Szwaja is not your average joe, and together I know we can put him in office and gain a truly independent voice for progressive values. So as we think about Independence Day today and later this week, let’s also think about voting for independent voice for change at the local level. I know Joe is the right person for this job, and I will continue to support his
bid for election as we move forward towards August 21st and the Primary, and then on to victory in November.

Sincerely,

Gentry Lange
